Jim Corbett Safari Zones Compared: Which Should You Book?
By Maulik Hospitality Editorial · Updated 2026-08-22
Every Jim Corbett permit locks you to one zone, so choosing wrong can cost you a trip. This comparison keeps it honest: tiger sightings are never guaranteed anywhere - but landscape, density and access differ hugely.
Dhikala Zone - the Classic
- Vast grasslands of the Ramganga reservoir; highest grassland-species diversity.
- Overnight stays possible inside at forest rest houses (books out months ahead).
- Day visits via canter from Dhangarhi gate.
Bijrani - the All-Rounder
- Mixed sal forest and grassland, good road network, closest gate to Ramnagar (about 8-10 km from our resorts).
- Strong tiger track record with reliable sightings history.
Jhirna & Dhela - the Southern Twins
- Open year-round (great when hill zones shut in monsoon).
- Dhela is newer with rewarding sloth bear and leopard odds; terrain is drier.
Durga Devi - the Quiet One
- Hilly, river-cut scenery in the north-east; fewer vehicles, great for elephants and mahseer pools.
- Longer drive from Ramnagar.
Sitabani Buffer - No Permit Pressure
- Technically buffer: temple, riverbed and forest walks; good birding when core permits are sold out.
