Ranthambore Safari Zones 1-10: Which Zone to Book
By Maulik Hospitality Editorial · Updated 2026-08-22
Ranthambore splits its core into ten tourist zones rotated daily by the forest department. You book a zone, not 'the park'. Reality check: tigers cross everywhere, but zones differ in habitat and hit-rate lore.
The Famous Five (Zones 1-5)
- Zone 1 - Sultanpur side; historic turf of tigress Krishna's lineage.
- Zone 2 - the old standby: Jogi Mahal views, Padam Talao edge, consistent records.
- Zone 3 - Rajbagh lake palaces-in-the-wild shots; postcard Ranthambore.
- Zone 4 - Machli's former kingdom; deep-forest feel.
- Zone 5 - Kachida valley; leopards and sloth bears add spice.
Zones 6-10: the Underrated Half
- Red-stone escarpments, Kundal grasslands, Balas valleys - fewer vehicles, growing sighting reputations (esp. 6 and 8 for tigers, 9-10 for rugged beauty).
Practical Notes
- Two shifts daily, Oct-Jun; jeeps (6 seats) and 20-seat canters.
- ID details required per guest at booking; carry originals.
- Gates sit near Sawai Madhopur - both our Ranthambore resorts are minutes away, so pre-dawn starts stay painless.
Strategy
Book 2-3 safaris across different zones rather than repeating one; mornings beat afternoons in hot months. Let reservations handle permits when you book direct.
